Jonathan Colmer is an Associate Professor of Economics and Public Policy in the Department of Economics at the University of Virginia, and the Co-Founder and Director of the Environmental Inequality Lab. 

Jonathan works in the areas of environmental economics, and  growth and development economics. His research combines data with insights from economic theory and environmental science to examine how economic activity and the environment influence one another, and how government interventions shape these interactions.

He is a Theme Leader for the Climate & Environment Program at PEDL (CEPR), a research affiliate of CEPR, the CESifo Network, and the IGC, a research fellow of IZA, and a research associate at the Center for Economic Performance

What's New

I am delighted to have been awarded one of the 2024 NSF CAREER Awards in Economics for my work on "The Extent, Causes, and Consequences of Environmental Inequality in the United States."

I have two new working papers out, Transitional Costs and the Decline of Coal: Worker-Level Evidence, with Eleanor Krause, Eva Lyubich, and John Voorheis and Income, Wealth, and Environmental Inequality in the United States with Suvy Qin, John Voorheis, and Reed Walker. Comments welcome!
